Ebook About This inspiring and prescriptive book leads us from the emotional chaos of the reactive mind to the clarity of the responsive mind As Founder of the Life Balance Institute, Phillip Moffitt has observed that most people lack clarity about their life's direction and the ability to cope with its inevitable challenges. Now, in Emotional Chaos to Clarity, he provides the antidote by showing us the path of skillful living. Grounded in Western psychology and Buddhist philosophy, each chapter introduces a mind state that prevents us from living skillfully, narrates stories from Moffitt's hundreds of students and clients, and provides step-by-step exercises for readers to find clarity in their own lives. Among the many benefits of skillful living are being able to gain wisdom from both pleasant and unpleasant experiences and having an inner life which can flourish, even if our outer life is filled with difficulty.Book Emotional Chaos to Clarity: Move from the Chaos of the Reactive Mind to the Clarity of the Responsive Mind Review :
I loved the advice, . Phillip Moffit went from the editor and Chief of Esquire Magazine and left the company in his late twenty's to find fulfillment in his life. He real-eyes that he could not buy his way to happiness know matter how hard he tried , he knew there was something else to life then making bank. So began his spiritual path. Listen to what he says because what he dishes out in my experience is excellent. Most of his examples are from his Life Balance clients, the ones who pay 550.00 a session and yes they are all successful in their chosen profession. For the rest of us who are not quite as successful we can still heed his wise words. Phillip Moffitt's book Emotional Chaos to Clarity is such a treasure for anyone interested in living a skillful life. For me personally, Phillip's discussion of intention and how to integrate intentions into your life is the most powerful concept covered and is integrated throughout. He brings clarity to the meaning of intention by comparing intentions to goals and through discussing core values. He says, "Intention is the capacity to stay in touch with what is of prime importance to you, from moment to moment, in your daily life."I have been drawn to Phillip as a teacher for many years because of his ability to make spiritual principles accessible. In this book he does this by using understandable descriptions and real life examples from his many students and clients. He also includes exercises at the end of each chapter to help deepen your understanding of the material covered. He often sheds light on a subject by comparing seemingly closely related ideas as in intentions/goals, expectations/possibilities, experience /interpretation that really allows insight.Phillip is also very skilled at taking subjects that you think you know all about like gratitude, priorities, compassion, and generosity and beautifully exploring them from many different angles so that your understanding deepens. For instance, a young woman who is dearly loved by the community was recently diagnosed with a life threatening illness. The community organized benefits to raise money to help her with medical expenses. I was reminded in Phillip's book that the receiving end of generosity can be difficult. I shared with her the following quote from him, "Being willing to receive graciously is another form of generosity. Without this willingness, the full cycle of generosity cannot occur. When we receive graciously, we are giving someone else the opportunity to be generous." She referred to this quote in the thank you she wrote to everyone saying, "This really struck me and allowed tears to freely fall. My lesson on giving and receiving deepened."In addition, he offers some very simple practices that can truly be life changing if adopted. One is called simply "starting over". I have used this simple (not necessarily easy) practice to change some deep rooted patterns that before learning to "start over" I couldn't get to budge. Another practice is "starting your day with clarity" which I use daily to help me remember and act from my intentions.I am a yoga teacher and I find this book a valuable source of information to share in my classes. Even though my students come from varied background the beauty of Phillip's book is that it is well received because he presents ideas that are useful and in a way that is understandable by people from all walks of life. One of my students who writes for the local paper commented on this. In a recent column she said, "I belong to a tribe of cynics...but there are times when I try to park my cynical, sarcastic self at the door...one of these is yoga class...often, at the end of class, my teacher reads to us. It has the satisfying feeling of a good bedtime story. The passages are short but meaty...I listen and vow to practice this simple but sage advice."I am deeply grateful for this book. I encourage you to read and spend time with Emotional Chaos to Clarity and to share it with as many people as possible.
